Kava Preparation

The modern and fastest way to enjoy the benefits of kava is with a shaker and suggest purchasing the Shaker/Kava Bundle. Alternatively, if you are looking for a more traditional South Pacific experience you could try the reusable strainer/muslin bag. Commonly used for groups of people.

 

STRAINER BAG (Traditional method for groups)
 

1. Place 2 tablespoons (25gms per person) into the strainer bag
2. Place strainer bag into a bowl
3. Add 250ml of water for every 25gm of kava into the bowl
4. Dunk in water, mix and knead bag for about 10 minutes or longer for stronger bre

 

Note: Fijians often reuse the kava in the bag and add more water to the bowl and knead again for extra cups

SHAKER (Fastest modern method)

Unscrew ball. Add 2 tablespoons of powder filling one hemisphere and 
screw back together.

Place ball in shaker and add water, 
filling to 300-400ml marker.

Seal the lid and shake vigorously for 60-90 seconds. Allow to rest for 
5 minutes or longer for a stronger brew.

Pour into glass and let the relaxation begin.

Note: For a few extra cups reuse the kava in the ball, add more water to shaker and shake vigorously again
